Wollongong City Council has adopted the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2020-2025 and the Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Policy.

Both documents were adopted by Council on 31 August and include valuable insights and recommendations from community feedback that was submitted during extensive engagement processes.

The DIAP 2020-2025 outlines Council’s actions to promote the inclusion of people with disability across our community by improving access to Council services and facilities. The previous DIAP supported improvements such as the installation of new accessible footpaths across the LGA, access upgrades to parks and playgrounds, more accessible events and wayfinding throughout the City.

The Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Policy is an overarching document that directs Council’s ongoing commitment and leadership in creating a City where diversity is valued, and where all residents feel they belong.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that Council has a key role in ensuring that Wollongong is inclusive and welcoming for everyone.

“Our goal is to make Wollongong a City for everyone by providing equal opportunities for all people to participate and enjoy community life.

“One of the ways we achieve this goal is by exploring and developing services, delivering infrastructure and implementing Council processes that support diversity throughout our community,” said Cr Bradbery.

“We want to create a community where diversity is valued and everyone is included and feel they belong. The Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2020-2025 and the Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Policy both work together to create this future by outlining practical strategies that can be implemented by Council.”
