The ASEAN University Network-Disability and Public Policy  (AUN-DPP net) is offering scholarships for Malaysians with disabilities to pursue a masters degree locally or in any universities within the ASEAN region. AUN-DPP net project officer Ferozan Ahmad said the scholarships are to help prospective students with disabilities fund their postgraduate education.

Ahmad said the Nippon Foundation  of Japan, Japan International Cooperation Agency  and the Japanese government provide scholarships for people with disabilities Scholarship are also offered by the Australian and New Zealand governments.

Their main objective is to ensure that students with disabilities are able to arm themselves with skill sets that will enable them to be independent and adaptable to whatever challenges they will face in society. Consequently they will indirectly promote an inclusive environment within their own community.

To date 16 students, four of whom are Malaysians have completed their master’s degree programmes at University Malaya. In total 41 students with disabilities have benefitted from the scholarship since it started in 2016.
