The first Russian centre for continuing education for children with disabilities has been established in the rural settlement of Nizhny Achaluki in Ingushetia, the Social Information Agency reports. In this centre, children and adolescents with various forms of disabilities can receive education from preschool to secondary and vocational.
The centre has a 24-hour kindergarten, which accepts kids from the age of three, and a primary school for children with disabilities. There are also groups of secondary special education in which children after graduation will be able to acquire working specialties: a construction master (specialists in finishing work inside buildings), an auto mechanic, a tailor. Now 36 pre-school children are studying at the centre, 285 schoolchildren and 40 teenagers are receiving vocational education.
Teachers working at the centre attended advanced training courses for specialists that were organised specifically for their training by the Institute of Correctional Pedagogy of the Russian Academy of Education which developed a special programme.
The training of employees consisted of several stages: first, methodological support was provided by the Institute of Corrective Pedagogy, then teachers passed distance learning, at the final stage, the Institute’s specialists came to Ingushetia to share their experience, conducted a round table and phased monitoring of the competencies of the teachers.
