Independent Review of Ageing and Disability Act 2019: submissions open

People with Disability Australia (PWDA) made this submission to the Independent Review of the Ageing and Disability Commissioner Act 2019.

In our submission, we emphasise the right of people with disability to privacy and confidentiality of personal information, and the imperative to obtain consent when it is necessary to share information. No assumptions should be made about the capacity of people with disability to make decisions about their life and information.

PWDA has made comprehensive recommendations about the Official Community Visitors (OCV) Scheme involving its powers within the Act, as well as its ability to exercise those powers and where changes are necessary to improve the outcomes of the Scheme to support and protect people with disability.
