The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) is planning to convert textbooks into the ePub format in association with the state commissioner for persons with disabilities, said the chairman of the GBSHSE on June 30, during the workshop on inclusive education.

Guruprasad Pawaskar, the state commissioner for persons with disabilities, urged the Goa Board, India, to make available all subject textbooks in an accessible format within six months.

“Education is the right of every student with disabilities and appealed to all educational institutes to take extra steps to understand the obstacles facing these students and to strive to create an inclusive learning environment for them” said Subhash Phaldesai, Minister for Social Welfare.

EPUB is an e-book file format that uses the “. epub” file extension. The term is short for electronic publication and is sometimes styled ePub. Many e-readers support EPUB, and compatible software is available for most smartphones, tablets, and computers.
