The second edition of the True Colors Film Festival (TCFF) runs online from December 3-12, offering free streaming of 10 features, 21 shorts and 4 dialogues.

Launching on International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD), this year’s theme, “Perspectives”, focuses on human stories about inclusion, diversity, hope, empowerment and human connection, changing the way we perceive our differences and our similarities.

The film festival aims to spotlight the lived experiences of persons with disabilities and the people around them, as well as to challenge existing perspectives.

Presented by The Nippon Foundation (TFN), a nonprofit philanthropic organization, TCFF offers a feast of 31 films, many of them award-winning, featuring diverse and sometimes radical perspectives on life, beauty, love, and the things that matter.

True Colors Film Festival Banner Here are some highlights:

  • Feeling Through – the first film to feature a DeafBlind actor, nominated for a 2021 Oscar. Inspired by a chance encounter between director and writer Doug Roland and a DeafBlind man one night in New York
  • Best Summer Ever – the first Screen Actors Guild-registered film with a fully inclusive cast and crew, more than half of which are persons with disabilities
  • The R-Word – a deep-dive into the history of the word “retard” which explores the reasons why this word must be banned. Inspired by director Amanda Lukoff’s lifelong advocacy for her sister Gabrielle.
  • Dialogues involving directors, actors, advocates, and hosts discussing issues around specific films

“There is no shortage of options for streaming movies on demand, so we’ve curated a selection of features, shorts and dialogues that you will not find anywhere else; a one-stop shop, if you like, of award-winning films about Perspectives that will entertain, challenge, fascinate and inspire change,” said Audrey Perera, Executive Producer of True Colors Film Festival 2021.

Last year’s film festival drew almost 8000 viewers from 39 countries.  Organizers are hoping for an even larger global audience this year.
