Queensland disability advocacy organisations are invited to apply for a share in $5.9 million of Queensland Government grants to deliver disability advocacy support services across the state from 1 January 2022 through to 30 June 2023.
Minister for Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Craig Crawford announced the opening of Disability Advocacy grants program on 5 July 2021, which will continue delivery of vital support to people living with disability.
“Every day more Queenslanders with disability, their family members and carers are reaching out to advocacy services to help them to speak out, defend their rights and interests and overcome barriers,” Mr Crawford said.
“Through this grants program, people with disability will continue to have a platform to voice their concerns, and access information, specialist advice and support, including capability building.”
Mr Crawford said that the Queensland Government was committed to ensuring that all Queenslanders with disability, no matter where they lived, had access to the support they deserved.
“Continuing to invest in advocacy support services will mean the rights and inclusion of people with disability can continue to be promoted and protected,” Mr Crawford said.
“It’s about ensuring people with disability can access the right support to participate fully in our community—socially, culturally and economically.
“This is another example of how the Queensland Government is building an inclusive state where every person, including the one in five Queenslanders who have a disability, can thrive and reach their full potential.
The Queensland Government is also continuing to work closely with the Commonwealth Government to understand the drivers of demand for disability advocacy services to inform the longer term approach to ensuring people with disability have access to the advocacy supports they need.”
Applications will close on 2 August 2021.
