Civil society organisations have called on the Nigerian government to ratify the African Disability Rights Protocol, said CSO’s during the roundtable meeting on the African Disability Protocol Ratification, held via videoconference.

Ms Racheal Inegbedion, Founder, Cedar Seed Foundation, who read the overview of the meeting, noted that the event’s primary focus was for the CSOs to have a framework that ensured effective consolidation of disability issues in all sectors, government programmes, and among the CSOs, the Punch reported.

“It is for us to ensure that there are full participation, inclusion, and representation of persons with disabilities in all levels of the society.” said Racheal

“But unless Africa sufficiently addresses the underlying structural and socioeconomic causes that compound the exclusion of persons with disabilities and the perennial exclusion of disability issues in programmes and budgets, our aspiration to have the ADP ratified in Nigeria, which is the giant of Africa, is likely to be impeded.
