The Genoa 2020 European Para Dance Sport Championships has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic in Italy.

The European Championships were set to be held from 17-21 December. It would have been the first major Para dance sport event in Italy since the 2015 World Championships in Rome.

A total of 150 dancers from 20 countries took part in the last edition of the European Championships in Lomianki, Poland in 2018.

“We are really sorry that the European Championships have been cancelled. The LOC has done a fantastic job to put an event together in an unprecedented year, but we had already established 30 October as a deadline to know if the competition would be able to go ahead or not,” said Camila Rodrigues, World Para Dance Sport Manager.

“The LOC and World Para Dance Sport have been continuously monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus pandemic as we will always put the health and well-being of all involved in our competitions as the number one priority. We look forward to working with the LOC again in the future as we share a common passion for our sport,” said Rodrigues.
