On the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, celebrated October 13 2020, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Regional Office for Europe will organize a virtual workshop on Local Level Resilience and Pandemic Risk , held virtually on 13 October from 16:30 to 18:00 (Brussels time zone, UTC+2).
The dramatic impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic struck at the heart of our local settings, across all regions of the European Union. Governments at all levels, in particular, local and regional authorities, have been called upon to provide emergency services, coordinate efforts and mitigate as far as possible the impact on citizens and economies. In an effort to contain the impacts of the virus, local authorities have taken a variety of courageous and innovative measures to mitigate the impacts of the current COVID-19 crisis, and to reduce existing risk and prevent future risk in their local risk landscape.
The workshop on Local Level Resilience and Pandemic Risk is organised by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, in partnership with the European Committee of the Regions and the Centre for European Volunteering, in the context of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2020. It will bring together a panel of representatives of European local and regional governments, including Paris (France), Madrid (Spain), Veneto Region (Italy), Padova (Italy), as well as the European Committee of the Regions.
