Volunteers help deaf community by making coronavirus information in sign language

India has a large community of people who are deaf or hard of hearing, but very little digital content exists in sign language during the coronavirus pandemic.

The problem has become worse during the coronavirus pandemic as the community doesn’t have instant access to crucial information and announcements in Sign Language.

As a result, it misses out on important COVID-19 news and information, such as televised addresses by Prime Minister Narendra Modi or press conferences announcing emergency economic measures.

But that is changing now. A group of volunteers have come together to translate important coronavirus information in sign language for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, watch BBC video below:
