The City of Boroondara has joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, a global initiative designed to support people with hidden disabilities.
The program helps raise awareness and understanding, making it easier for people with hidden disabilities to access services and participate in the community life.
Staff at our Libraries, Maternal and Child Health centres, Boroondara Youth Hub, Hawthorn Arts Centre, Kew Court House and Customer Connect are now trained to recognise the sunflower symbol and to provide friendly, understanding assistance to people with hidden disabilities.
Not all disabilities are visible. Some people live with conditions that aren’t immediately obvious but can impact how they move through the world.
The Sunflower Program allows people with hidden disabilities to wear a Sunflower lanyard, pin or card as a discreet way to show they may need a little extra time, patience or understanding. Staff trained to recognise the symbol are equipped to offer extra support and respond with understanding, kindness and respect.
