The 2025 World Para Athletics Championships kicked off on September 27 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi, drawing thousands of athletes, officials and spectators from more than 100 countries.

The event began on 27 September and will conclude on 5 October. It will be the 12th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships and the largest Para sport event ever held in India.

The opening ceremony featured cultural performances, athlete delegations and accessibility demonstrations. Competition began immediately after the ceremony, with strong medal expectations for India in track and field events such as javelin, shot put and high jump.

With nine days of events ahead, the championship is being closely watched across Asia and internationally, both for athletic performance and as a test of India’s readiness to expand disability sport on the global stage.

The New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships competition program will feature 186 medal events (101 men’s, 84 women’s and one mixed), 15 more than at the last edition of the championships in Kobe.
