Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in India has been awarded Level 1 of the Accessibility Accreditation by Airports Council International (ACI) World. The certification recognizes RGIA’s efforts to create a travel environment that is accessible, safe, and dignified for all passengers, including those with disabilities. This accolade underscores the airport’s continued focus on enhancing facilities and services to meet global standards of accessibility.

The ACI Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation Program is a global initiative designed to help airports assess and improve their accessibility standards. Level 1 serves as the foundational tier, guiding airports to identify existing barriers, evaluate current infrastructure and services, and begin implementing internationally recognized best practices.

RGIA was assessed on key parameters including physical infrastructure (such as ramps, signage, and accessible restrooms), passenger services (including assistance programs and communication aids), staff training, and the airport’s organizational culture and leadership commitment to inclusivity.

“Our goal is to ensure that every traveller, regardless of physical or cognitive ability, feels welcomed, supported and empowered. Through accessible infrastructure, customised facilities, improved capacity-building programs for staff to assist persons with special needs, we are dedicated to making every journey through our airport seamless and dignified for all,” said Pradeep Panicker, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited.
