Persons with disabilities in Wanyororo village in Dundori have urged Nakuru County government to help them acquire medical cards to enable them access medical services at public hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic.
Some of the residents said since the outbreak of the deadly disease in March, many have been unable to move out of their homes.
Many of the residents are suffering from depression, hunger and other illness due to the pandemic, Daily Nation reports.
“We urge the national and county governments to give us humanitarian relief support at this time of coronavirus pandemic,” said Ms Margaret Wanjiru.
Ms Wanjiru said her daughter has a physical disability and it is increasingly becoming hard to meet her daily needs due to poverty.
Another resident Jane Wanjiru said she has three children with intellectual disabilities and could not access government medical services since she lacks the disability card.
“I have no money to take my mentally sick children to a private hospital and I ask the county to help me get the vital disability card to enable me take them to clinic,” said Ms Wanjiru.
“The residents are in dire need of humanitarian assistance as some with cerebral palsy, blindness and depression and other forms of intellectual disabilities,” said Ms Karugi when she distributed foodstuffs, hand sanitisers and face masks to the residents.
