Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has launched an auto-testing service of coronavirus symptoms using the Chabot technique and artificial intelligence features for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The service will be available for people with hearing disabilities using sign language through “Wassel”, an online application, and Tamkeen website, the ministry said on Wednesday.
The service was launched during a meeting between Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, the Regional Director of the American multinational technology company Avaya Ahmed Fayed, and the Resident Representative at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Egypt Randa Aboul-Hosn.
According to the UNDP’s statement, Talaat said the service is the first of its kind to be available in the Arab region and Africa.
Aboul-Hosn stressed the importance of using technology to curtail the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly on people with disabilities.
