The plan is to open semi-stationary departments in St. Petersburg in which parents can leave their children with severe disabilities for a while, the St. Petersburg TV channel reports quoting the chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for Social Policy, Alexander Rzhanenkov. Such branches are planned to open in urban areas from April 1.

At present, 582 thousand people with disabilities live in St. Petersburg. Of these, 18 thousand are children with various forms of disability. As a study conducted by the public organisation “Perspectives” has shown , most families with children with disabilities need a temporary stay service for a child with severe disabilities under the supervision of specialists.

After reviewing the results of the study, the City Committee for Social Policy of St. Petersburg decided to meet the parents of disabled children and introduce a new social service – “Kindergarten for Adults”. Such a “kindergarten” is a semi-stationary unit with a stay of less than 4 hours. The service will be provided to families with children with severe disabilities over the age of 18.

Not so long ago, in each districts, we created centres for this category of citizens and people with disabilities, in principle, ”said Alexander Rzhanenkov.
