Russian Ministry: by 2025, almost a quarter of public transport will be accessible

The share of public transport adapted for people with disabilities will almost double by 2025, TASS reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Labour. At least 675 buses, adapted for the transportation  of passengers with disabilities, will be purchased.

As reported earlier, the Russian government instructed the Ministry of Labour to develop a new draft of the state program “Accessible Environment 2025″. The main directions of the new program envisage the implementation of measures to ensure the accessibility of facilities and services in priority areas of vital activity of people with disabilities (education, culture, transport), to improve the system of comprehensive rehabilitation and habilitation of people with disabilities, as well as the state system of medical and social care. One of the subprograms of the new program “Accessible Environment” aims to improve  the accessibility of public transport for people with disabilities. Within the framework of this program, it is planned to purchase more than 600 new buses that will be adapted to transport passengers with disabilities.

According to the Ministry of Labour, as of the end of 2018, 14.1% of public transport was adapted for people with disabilities in Russia. By 2025, at least 675 new buses will be made available for passengers with disabilities  This will increase the proportion of vehicles adapted for the disabled to 23.8%
