People with mobility disabilities can book a free all-terrain wheelchair from the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre, making it easier to explore the Queens Domains’ tracks and trails.

The power-assisted TrailRider allows people with disability facing mobility challenges to use and enjoy bushland tracks and natural areas that would otherwise be difficult or out of reach.

The Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre provides a convenient and accessible base, with direct access to a range of suitable trails on the Queens Domain.

The City of Hobart encourages community members to book the TrailRider and discover the natural beauty of Hobart’s bushland reserves in a safe and supported way.

Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds: “The City of Hobart is making it easier for people of all abilities to enjoy the outdoors by basing the TrailRider at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre, right next door to the Queens Domain.

“The Queens Domain offers a selection of relatively gentle and accessible routes, giving more people the opportunity to experience Hobart’s natural environment and spectacular views.

“The TrailRider is easy to use with a sturdy frame and a battery-operated motor for extra assistance along uneven terrain.

“With the help of two companions, users can comfortably explore bush tracks, enjoy fresh air, and connect with nature.”

David Cawthorn: “The TrailRider helps break down barriers to outdoor recreation for people with disability that have limited mobility.

“Getting out into nature improves physical health, mental wellbeing and social connections, and this initiative ensures more members of the community can share in those benefits.

“The gentle tracks and beautiful views found on the Queens Domain make for a perfect bush outing in the TrailRider.”
