International Day of People with Disability grants

Council invites community groups, schools and not-for-profit organisations throughout the Shire to apply for a grant to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

Celebrated annually on 3 December, the United Nations-observed IDPwD aims to increase public awareness and understanding of people with disability, and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

Each year Council offers grants of up to $1000 to run events or activities to celebrate IDPwD and highlight disability inclusion in Nillumbik.

Mayor Frances Eyre said IDPwD provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate people with disability – including the 4.4 million Australians with disability.

“IDPwD is a chance for all of us to challenge the way we think about disability and help Australia become more inclusive,” Cr Eyre said.

“Last year, grant-funded inclusive activities included a live music event in Alistair Knox Park, a song and dance party, and a series of barefoot bowls events.

“More like these will be important to help our community reconnect after the isolation of COVID-19,” she said.

Grant applications close on 15 August and events or activities must be held between November 2022 and January 2023. If you’d like more information about the grants or want to discuss an idea for a disability inclusive event or activity, call the Disability Inclusion team on 0438 277 428 or email inclusion@nillumbik.vic.gov.au
