The community hub for persons with disabilities is expected to be completed sometime this year in Rabat, Malta, Minister for Inclusion, Social Wellbeing, and Voluntary Organisations Julia Farrugia Portelli announced on Sunday. She said that €500,000 was invested.

“This Budgetary measure seeks to improve the services for persons with disabilities in order for them to be able to live more independent lives.” said Minister Farrugia Portelli.

During a press conference, Farrugia Portelli explained that the building is almost ready and only minor works are needed. These little works will begin in the coming months to make the building more accessible.

The government submitted the floor plans to the planning authority to commence construction work. In parallel, the process of purchasing furniture is underway. This furniture will be specialised for persons with disabilities.

For his part, Permenanent Secretary Matthew Vella said that this project shows that the government places people at the centre of its work.
He said that people with disabilities have a vital role to play, and that this service will allow them to achieve their full potential in society.

“This project also shows that the government is making use of the available tools effectively to ensure that people with disabilities are given the best service possible,” Vella said.
