New partnership to help religious needs of persons with disabilities in UAE

Mosque in Abu Dhabi

A new agreement will help persons with disabilities decipher Friday sermons through a sign language interpreter at a mosque, learn the Holy Quran, and obtain annual Hajj permits.

The Zayed Higher Organisation for the people of determination said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments (Awqaf) to help meet the requirements of persons with disabilities and safeguard their needs in religious affairs.

The MoU will help promote the services provided in mosques for persons with disabilities to enable them to perform prayers with tranquility and reverence and enhance the Holy Quran’s mechanism.

The authority’s platforms will be made accessible to people of determination, allowing them to benefit from joint programs and events between the two entities and promote products made by persons with disabilities to consolidate national and religious values and tolerance and moderation.

His Excellency Abdullah Abdul-Ali Al-Humaidan, Secretary-General of Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, and by His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Bakhit Al Neyadi, Director General of Determination, signed the agreement the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments. The signing ceremony took place through remote visual communication in the presence of a number of leaders from both the organization and the authority.

The organization will also provide training courses in sign language and skills for dealing with people of determination for the authority’s specialized employees, to enable them to provide optimal support to people of determination, in addition to printing religious publications issued by the authority in Braille and providing mosques with wooden stands produced by the organization’s people of disabilities.
