Seminar on legal capacity of persons with disabilities in Panama

The legal capacity of persons with disabilitieswas the topic of the four sessions of the seminar given by José Viera to judicial officials, public entities, universities, civil society organizations and those interested in learning about the mechanisms for the application of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in hearings and judicial proceedings.

This training is organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean (UNODC ROPAN), through the Project to Consolidate the Criminal Procedure Reform in Panama, together with the Unit of Access to Justice and Gender of the Judicial Branch and the Superior Institute of the Judiciary of Panama “Doctor César Augusto Quintero Correa”.

Some of the topics discussed were: decision making system with support, Comparative Law: Experiences from Peru and Argentina and the recommendations of the United Nations Committee to the Republic of Panama.

Viera is a specialist in the human rights of persons with disabilities and an invited expert to the UN Committee for the evaluation of states in the implementation of the Disability Convention.
