Under the slogan: ‘We are capable of everything’, the Month of Persons with Disabilities is commemorated in Bogotá in October, a priority population for the District Secretariat for Social Integration (SDIS).

The Month of People with Disabilities has been celebrated since 2006 by mandate of District Agreement 245, which determined that persons with disabilities, caregivers and their families are a fundamental pillar for Bogotá. The SDIS recognizes and ensures the rights of individuals, families and communities with special attention, emphasizing those who live in conditions of poverty and vulnerability in the capital.

This process is developed through an exercise of co-responsibility and co-management between the family, society and the State, with the aim of promoting, preventing, protecting, and restoring their rights. During Persons with Disabilities Month SDIS has a series of events and activities that seek to recognize the important work of people with disabilities, caregivers and their families.

For the team of the Disability Project in SDIS 7771 “strengthening opportunities for inclusion of persons with disabilities, families and their caregivers in Bogotá”, is an invitation to citizens and a call to highlight the responsibility to promote and recognize care settings, a process that must start from home and be replicated in every space of society.

Each activity seeks to recognize the capacities and abilities of persons with disabilities, caregivers and their families. Additionally, seven local and virtual disability forums will be held between October 13 and 16. In these spaces, the capacities, abilities and talents of people with visual, hearing, deaf-blind, physical, cognitive, psychosocial and multiple disabilities will be recognized.
