The Telangana government announced plans to introduce Braille textbooks in colleges, expanding access to higher education for students with vision disabilities.

The Disabilities Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar on Sunday said the initiative aims to remove systemic barriers faced by students with vision disabilities. Officials confirmed that the move will be implemented through a government order after consultations with universities and disability groups.

The announcement coincided with the launch of Telangana’s first Braille New Year calendar, symbolizing the state’s broader push for inclusive communication. The minister also reiterated proposals for free bus travel for persons with disabilities and stronger employment safeguards.

Disability advocates welcomed the decision but emphasized that successful implementation will require teacher training, timely distribution, and digital accessibility alongside Braille formats.
