South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Social Development Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu launched the Department’s new Disability Empowerment and Mainstreaming Guidelines, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

JICA and the department have entered into a four-year technical partnership to develop “disability empowerment mainstreaming.”

The technical partnership will help the department provide services to persons with disabilities and improve the overall quality of their lives.

“The guidelines are in line with the vision of the National Development Plan (NDP), which aims to combat poverty and discrimination,” said Bogopane-Zulu.

“The purpose of this guidelines is to ensure the promotion of disability mainstreaming and the empowerment of persons with disabilities in line with the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (WPRPD) as well as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,” she said in a statement.
