The CERMI related disability movement condemns that public leaders, such as the mayor of Valladolid, Óscar Puente, use people’s mental health as a weapon of disqualification and insult against their political adversaries.
On the social network Twitter, the PSOE spokesperson also questioned the “mental balance” of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, connoting aspects related to mental health as negative and objectionable, which is a unjustified aggression and enormous damage to the positive perception and social value of people with mental health problems.
CERMI in Spain urges public officials to refrain from using disability as an element or factor of repudiation or rejection of those who think differently, and urges them to build with their expressions and behaviors a considerate and respectful social image of all persons with disabilities.
