The Ministry of Education (Minedu) started the television program “I learn at home for students of Special Basic Education” through TV Peru broadcasts, which will be aimed at students with special educational needs (SEN), of initial and primary education, and will include the teaching of the Peruvian sign language.

The program, which is broadcasted every Saturday from 10 a.m., expects to reach more than 15,000 students between 3 and 20 years of age who have severe or multiple disabilities, according to the director general of Specialized Educational Services of the Minedu, Paul Gonzales.

The initiative is aimed at students with SEN enrolled in the various modalities and includes more than 1,300 with disabilities who moved from private to public educational institutions during the health emergency by the coronavirus.

“The program has various resources that recreate the dynamics of the school, spaces with stories and other sessions with activities that are inherent to the home and highlights the participation of the family as a very important activity for the development of learning; it also has a segment that teaches sign language to facilitate the development of people with multiple disabilities”, he commented.

Gonzales explained that the learning sessions have educational complements that include stories, songs, Peruvian sign language teaching blocks, guidelines for the development of activities at home and recommendations to families for the care of children, adolescents and young people by type disability.

The educational space is led by Daniel Paiba, a professional in performing arts and literature, actor and broadcaster, and has the participation of Moisés Piscoya, renowned interpreter of Peruvian sign language, and Paul Valdez, teacher of this language.
