Persons with disabilities pay a high price in the time of confinement. Due to the economic activities they carry out, they are at risk of contracting COVID-19 and have difficulties when moving due to restrictions.
“Unfortunately, the situation of people with disabilities in this pandemic stage weighs twice as many of the people are self-employed, are street artists singing or doing other activities, seeking their economic subsistence. In that understanding, they are one of the most affected sectors”, pointed out the head of the Departmental Directorate of People with Disabilities (Didepedis), Marilyn Parts, in contact with Correo del Sur Digital.

“What we are waiting for is for the rent (decree) to be enacted to start processes. We have many cases of people living in rental situations and being dispossessed,” he added.
He regretted that people in the sector, especially those who engage in informal commerce, are victims of assaults and robberies by unscrupulous people who took away the few profits they achieve daily.
On Saturday, through social networks, it was learned that a person with a disability was the victim of a robbery in the Amistad square, the Campesino market area.
“It is really reprehensible… it does not seem to me that it is easier for other young people to steal and loot when their workforce is better than that of a person with a disability,” he said.
