The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde said Saturday that it will hold a series of online lessons on basic Filipino sign language (FSL) online beginning May 30.

The learning sessions will be taught on Facebook Live through the page of Benilde’s School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies starting May 30, the college said in a Facebook post.

Instead of asking for fees, the college department will be accepting donations to raise funds for students who are deaf who are stranded in their dormitories amid the community quarantine.

Beneficiaries of the fundraising also include FSL Learning Program faculty who are on no-work-no-pay scheme, and for the FSL Access Team for COVID-19 who work as media interpreters.

The campaign intends to raise funds for deaf students who are stranded in dormitories, indigent deaf scholars who need to return to their provinces after the extended lockdown is lifted, and faculty who are on a “no work, no pay” scheme, Benilde said.

Benilde added that the funds would also support the FSL Access Team for COVID-19, who serve as interpreters in broadcast news programs during the pandemic.
