Free taxi for people with disabilities to attend therapies in Yucatan

Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal announced the operating rules so that people with a motor disability can use taxi services for free for attending their medical therapies and treatments, up to twice a week. These rules came into force last Saturday, as published the day before in the Official Gazette of the State government.

According to the publication, this is the subsidy program included in the budget to modernize the Public Transport System.

For this, a computer program is also included, providing mobile devices to the units operators, for identifying people who are entitled to these subsidies in public transport, and to ensure the service providers have the permit issued by the Institute of Mobility and Urban Territorial Development (Imdut), which guarantees that it meets all the requirements. The subsidy program is executed by the Institute for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities of the State of Yucatan (Iipedey), in coordination with the Imdut and the DIF, and is applied only in Merida city.

Individuals or companies with taxi service concessions may participate in this program as service providers, who must process their operations feasibility permits, while users must also process their Iipedey certification and be registered in the Center’s Photo-credentialing System, and the Intelligent credential of the Comprehensive Urban Transport System, which is updated every year.

The State government through Iipedey will grant the participating concessionaires the subsidised payment of 100% of the cost of each transport service provided, priced at 80 pesos per service, and said amount will be updated annually by the participating institutions.

In accordance with this decree, this program will be in effect from, Saturday April 25, until December 30, 2024.
