Tokyo, February 10, 2020 – Finding information related to disability can be challenging for anyone interested in the subject. In the ever-expanding sea of information, there is a heightened need to access reliable data with ease and swiftness and in one single place. Disability Insider (DI) is one such platform. It will serve as a one-stop-shop for information on disability, accessibility with a specific focus on travel, accessibility and technology.
If you were to browse through the DI website, you would get the latest information on disability about a country that you may be travelling to, are doing a project in or are simply interested in learning more about. The information here is not just limited to country data, but also provides you with the latest news, assistive technology and mobile apps in the world of disability.
Aqeel Qureshi, CEO of Techbility, the company that created Disability Insider says, “The website – Disability Insider is a first of its kind in the world that serves as a demonstration of an accessible service, incorporating some of today’s emerging technologies while following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.” Qureshi further adds that in addition to filling an identified gap in information related to disability, DI provides resources necessary to support the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD).
Vassil Velev, Founder and Editor takes it from there: Our ambition is to contribute to the accurate representation of persons with disabilities – neither superheroes nor objects of pity, to enhance the voices of these people and to be an instrument of change in both the social environment and human perception. DI also offers the possibility for everyone to share their personal stories and experiences, both positive and negative. DI is an information hub for issues related to disability, accessibility with a specific focus on travel and technology. It was born out of a very simple idea. Today, researchers, professionals, students or even users with disabilities themselves – when in need of any information on disability, have to visit several websites, each catering to a different subset of data. While this may give the user the information they are looking for, it ends up taking a lot of time, energy and patience. It was this very simple thought that gave birth to DI. Our aim is noble and simple- to bring the world closer to information.
