Disability Legislations and Policies
People with disabilities in the country are estimated to be more than 1,86,000. They do not have the opportunity to take part in the economic life due to inaccessible environment. Certain progress has been made in recent years to the active work of the Armenian NGO’s and state reforms. Armenia ratified the UN CRPD in 2010 which created the necessary conditions for more reforms.
The Armenian legislation regulating the disability field is full of gaps and inconsistencies, which hinder the implementation of the laws. Moreover, even if the laws are perfected, most legislative pieces are not applicable in practice, due to the lack of appropriate mechanisms, resources and conditions for implementation of the laws.
