The Cook Labor Government has delivered new housing options for people living with disability in Perth’s south, thanks to more than $2.4 million in grant funding awarded to Uniting WA for the construction of three new Supported Independent Living houses.
Built by Perth business JFK Custom Homes, the new homes in Riverton and Spearwood provide safe, secure, and fully accessible accommodation for up to nine residents.
In Spearwood, a new three-bedroom, three-bathroom home will accommodate up to three residents, with internal and external communal living spaces. Construction is now complete thanks to a $802,666 Cook Labor Government grant.
In Riverton, construction is also complete on two new homes with capacity for up to six residents. Each home comprises three bedrooms, three bathrooms, communal indoor and outdoor living areas, and Onsite Overnight Assistance facilities. This project was supported by $1,599,088 funding from the Federal Government.
All three homes are fully accessible, exceeding the Silver level of Livable Housing Australia Design Standards and achieved a minimum 7-star NatHERS energy rating.
Residents will benefit from wraparound support services provided by Uniting WA, including Home Care, mental health, and NDIS services.
The new homes are situated in well-established residential communities, ensuring residents are close to public transport, medical and health services, shops, and recreation facilities.
Housing and Works Minister John Carey said: “By investing more than $2.4 million in these projects, the State and Federal governments are helping deliver greater choice, independence and dignity for Western Australians who need supported housing options.
“Our government’s partnership with Uniting WA has changed countless lives through numerous projects that support people living with disability, transitioning out of homelessness, or escaping family and domestic violence into accommodation.
“It’s part of our record $10.8 billion investment in housing since 2021, with thousands of social homes and affordable rentals in the pipeline.”
Federal Member for Tangney Sam Lim said: “The Albanese Government’s partnership with Cook Labor Government and community housing providers like Uniting WA, provides the security, dignity, and comfort of housing to our most vulnerable.”
Riverton MLA Dr Jags Krishnan said: “Our government is once again investing into more social homes within the Riverton community, helping to ensure that every Western Australian has a home.
“It’s fantastic to see that these two beautifully appointed homes are now complete.”
