The State of Qatar will host the Ninth Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2028). The conference will take place in Doha in 2028 and will convene governments, international organizations, experts, civil society, and partners from around the world to accelerate action on reducing disaster risk and building a safer, more resilient future.
Meeting two years before the end of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, GP2028 will serve as a pivotal moment to take stock of global and regional progress, highlight remaining gaps, confront emerging risks, and identify solutions that can protect lives, livelihoods, and critical systems. It will also begin shaping the next phase of international cooperation on disaster risk reduction beyond 2030.
Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction welcomed the announcement, stating: “Qatar’s firm commitment to the 2030 sustainable development agenda and support for the most vulnerable make it a strong and forward-looking host for GP2028. As the Sendai Framework nears its conclusion, this Global Platform will be a pivotal moment to accelerate action and shape the future of disaster risk reduction.
