Have your say on Ageing and Disability Commissioner legislation

“The NSW Government first introduced this legislation in 2019 to promote and protect the rights of older people and adults with disabilities,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

“Like all legislation, we now need to make sure it is fit for purpose and supports those it was designed for.”

Consultation on the legislation will open from early November through to the end of the month.

Minister for Seniors Mark Coure said public consultation was integral to the whole review.

“We want to make sure that the public has the opportunity to contribute to the process to ensure the legislation is fit for purpose,” Mr Coure said.

“This means giving everyone, especially seniors and adults with a disability, the opportunity to help improve this legislation, which was designed to support them.”

The consultation process will be open to all members of the public, including:

  • People with lived experience of ageing and disability, as well as their carers and families
  • Agencies representing ageing and disability populations
  • Agencies representing vulnerable and disadvantaged groups
  • Community-based service providers
  • Government agencies who have contact with relevant target groups
