Shellharbour City Council will offer information sessions on the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) this month.

The sessions will provide opportunity for collaboration and networking and allow Council to gain a greater understanding of the wants and needs of people with a disability in the Shellharbour community.

The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) outlines the actions Council will take to improve the accessibility and inclusiveness of its services to provide equitable access, opportunities and support for people with a disability in Shellharbour.

The plan covers all aspects of Council services and aims to make Shellharbour City a place where people want to live, work and play.

Information sessions will allow participants to understand what the DAIP involves, discover what supports are available to assist someone with a disability and identify gaps in the existing systems and provide strategies for improvement.

The community session will be held at the Shellharbour Civic Centre on the following date:

Tuesday 15 February (10am-11.30am)

Phone in community sessions will be held on:

Thursday 10 February (9am-10.30am)

Tuesday 15 February (5pm-6.30pm)

The service provider sessions will be held on:

Tuesday 15 February (3pm-4.30pm)

Wednesday 23 February (10.30am-12pm)

The community are also encouraged to share their feedback on Council’s Let’s Chat page.

Shellharbour City Mayor, Chris Homer, said the sessions were important, as they will allow Council to identify current and potential assets and services in the City that could support those in the community with a disability.

“The Disability Access and Inclusion sessions are an opportunity for the community to discuss the importance of accessibility, opportunity and support for people with a disability and I encourage the community to participate”, Mayor Homer said.
