A new storytelling article tackling hate speech and discrimination against persons with disabilities in Moldova, is now available online

This is the fifth from a series of six web articles developed by the journalistic platform “Oameni și Kilometri”, in the framework of the regional project “Strengthening access to justice for victims of discrimination, hate crime and hate speech in the Eastern Partnership”, in cooperation with the Ombudsoffice, Equality Council and the Promo-LEX Association from the Republic of Moldova.

The web article presents the problems of hate speech and discrimination faced by people with disabilities living in Moldova, encountered in their access to goods and services available to the public, in employment, education, or, more recently, discriminatory situations related to the pandemics. According to the Equality Council, over the last five years in the Republic of Moldova, disability was in the top criteria invoked in complaints, thus placing people with disabilities in the most vulnerable and discriminated categories.

Along with the story in the article, there are valuable references for potential victims or witnesses of hate speech and country-specific data on hate speech and discrimination against persons with disabilities.
