The Provincial Directorate of Cooperativism of Gualeguaychú in Argentina has launched an initiative to promote the training of people with disabilities.

In partnership with the national program PROMOVER, this strategy encourages cooperatives to train people with disabilities between 18 and 24 years old.

The General Directorate of Cooperativism of the Government of the Province of Entre Ríos, headed by Mauricio Weber, also a member of the Argentine Confederation of Associated Cooperative Workers (Conarcoop), developed the integration of cooperatives into the Promote del Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security.

The initiative seeks to promote the program in cooperatives of all sectors that intend to employ young people with disabilities. In the city of Gualeguaychú, textile, construction, education and medical assistance cooperatives have already agreed to the training program.

In order to take part, applicants must provide the necessary documentation — those with different abilities must present their card and certificate, and once approved, training will start.

The coordinator highlighted the importance of training in work tasks, but fundamentally the challenge that comes with that training: fostering a cooperative spirit during learning and training participants in specific areas that match their capabilities. “We have had the joy that those who have participated in two job training do not belong to the PROMOVER program but to the Youth for More and Better Work program, and they ended up being part of the cooperative as partners.”

Cooperatives that participate in the PROMOVER program agree to assume the sole commitment of training people with disabilities in certain job duties.

In relation to labor inclusion, a program official stated, “All this articulation was given thanks to the fact that the Directorate of Cooperatives in the new management passed to the Ministry of Production and Economic Development under Carlos Silva.”
