Able Foods has designed easy-to-open microwavable packaging for its baked beans, making it easier for people with disabilities to heat and serve.

The product is sold exclusively at Coles supermarkets all across Australia.

Dylan Alcott, co-founder of Able Foods, said, “The Baked Bean can has been difficult to open since day one, so we wanted to innovate in the space, give choice to Australians and make this product more accessible for people with or without disability.”

Able Foods was launched last year to manufacture food products specifically for people with disabilities in mind and also hires staff with disabilities.

“We are providing grants to young Australians with disability through The Dylan Alcott Foundation to help them gain confidence, fulfil their potential and achieve their dreams. We want our customers to know that by supporting us you are supporting young Australians with disability,” Alcott said.

Coles General Manager, Leanne White, said, “At Coles, we are passionate about improving accessibility in our stores,” adding, “It’s important for us to create a shopping environment that’s inclusive to millions of customers we serve every single week and that includes providing products that are accessible and convenient to use for those with disability.

“Through our partnership with Able Foods, we also have the ability to increase the reach of the Dylan Alcott Foundation and in turn raise awareness and much needed funds for a fantastic cause.”
