Nonprofit in Malawi urges communities to protect children with disabilities

Network for Youth Development (NfYD), a nonprofit organisation in Malawi, has urged communities in Chiwamba to be vigilant in protecting children with disabilities from any form of abuse and violence.

NfYD programmes Manager Licade Nyirenda made the remarks Sunday when she presented a Christmas gift of Medical Supplies worth K500 000 to Chiwamba Health Centre in Lilongwe, reports Nyasa Times.

She said parents and guardians are responsible for making sure that their children are providing adequate care and protection.

“Through Girls Get Equal (GGE) project with support from Norad through Plan International are implementing it goes end child marriages, protecting a child with albinism and Epileptic” said Nyirenda.

“The project had identified 18 children with albinism and epileptic who are providing medical care.

She said the medical support donation is meant to boost the facility’s current stocks to cater to the targeted children.

She said additional medical supplies would be distributed to their impact areas worth K 3 million.

The Christmas Gifts included Medical supplies (skin lotions and Phenobarbitone tablets), a bucket, soaps, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials on child protection.
