Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has assured its support for companies and entities working with persons with disabilities.

“The support is meant to ensure local businesses’ growth and offer unending opportunities and hopes to all physically challenged persons across the country.” said Mrs. Delese Darko, Chief Executive Officer of the FDA,

She made this remark at the launch of the National Social Development Awards and the first-ever factory’s launch to employ persons with disabilities by the Ghana Dreams Disability Development Foundation (GDDDF).

The event’s objectives are first to reward persons who have contributed to social development and secondly to raise funds to support the maintenance of machines and logistics for the GDDDF.

The GDDDF, a local natural fruit juice beverage producer, located at Kasoa Ofankor is officially set to begin operations in December this year. For a start, the Foundation will employ 60 people, of which 40 are persons with disabilities.

Persons with disabilities are one of the largest oppressed groups in Ghana. An estimated 8 million disabled people are living in Ghana, forming almost 20 percent of the 30 million population.
