Panama approves facilitating voting for persons with disabilities

Hand dropping a ballot card into the vote box

In a statement, the National Electoral Reform Commission (CNRE) said that it altered the agenda of its session to give priority to the approval of articles referring to the conditions for the equalization of opportunities for people with disabilities in a way that facilitate reaching their voting tables by means of prohibitions that prevent locating voting tables on second floors or inaccessible places.

For the magistrate Alfredo Juncá, who chairs the CNRE, these recent agreements represent an advance in the national dialogue on electoral matters.

Added to this is the issue of assisted voting, which although the principle of voting will be secret is maintained, the person with a disability or dependent conditions is allowed to be accompanied by a person of their choice in cases where the vote online is not possible.
