Boosting persons with disabilities’ participation in economic and community life is the focus of more than $75 million in Federal Government grants announced on October 29.

Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward said applications are now open for the next two rounds of the Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program, with New South Wales (NSW) organisations encouraged to apply.

“Many people with disability face barriers to full participation in social and economic life that many of us take for granted – this program aims to remove those barriers,” Mr Ward said.

“Previous ILC grant rounds have injected millions of dollars into programs promoting inclusion through sports, local clubs, community groups and councils.

“It is important to support the growth of opportunities for community participation for people with disability, particularly during the recovery from the pandemic, and I strongly encourage organisations to apply.”

Almost $36 million is available through the Social and Community Participation grant round, which fosters inclusion in community life through arts, culture, sport and recreational activities.

An additional $40 million is available under the Economic Participation grant round, focusing on improving job readiness and employment related skills and knowledge for people with disabilities.

NSW organisations have received more than $125 million in ILC grants since the program was established.

Applications are open until 11:00pm (AEDT) on Tuesday 8 December 2020.
