Hiring of persons with disabilities falls in Spain during the pandemic

Persons with disabilities have a difficult time finding a job during the coronavirus pandemic in Spain.

New hires of professionals with intellectual disabilities have fallen by 80% since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, according to data from the Fundajobs Employment Office of the A LA PAR Foundation.

The destruction of this type of employment has a double impact: on the one hand, the destruction of employment itself, and on the other, that vulnerable sectors will return to the care circuit, reverting to dependence on the administration. Having a job is something that makes a person feel valuable.

The effort made by numerous associations in Spain to train men and women with disabilities to work in various positions is taking a step backward since companies are not going through a good time, and they are the last on the list of priorities.

To turn the situation around, they are making use of their imagination, adapting it to the moment’s needs. In some foundations, they have created a training related to Covid-19. Many companies require that figure to be aware that the security protocols are met, social distancing in the lines, the masks, etc.

Confinement was not positive on a psychological level for the vast majority of us. Still, for persons with disabilities by not connecting online, it has led them to isolation when they had advanced thanks to their jobs and routines.
