The Shanghai Disney Resort launched a new sign language interpretation service for its iconic Mickey’s Storybook Express parade to celebrate the International Day of Sign Languages that fell on Wednesday.

The free sign language interpretation service must be booked at least seven days ahead of the visit, the company said.

Sign language interpreters have been called in to interpret the fun phrases and lyrics sung by beloved Disney characters as they pass by on their floats, thus providing visitors with hearing disabilities with a better understanding of the performance.

“The addition of the latest sign language service is in line with the company’s commitment to fostering an accessible environment for all guests and employees. ” said Joe Schott, president, and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort.

“We hope that this week’s unique celebration will further raise awareness of the importance of inclusivity in all aspects of our lives,” he said.

The Shanghai Disney Resort also launched its first Sign Language Week from Sept. 21 to 27, during which visitors could learn Chinese sign language from Disney’s cast members in Disneytown.
