The Tasmanian Government has launched funding for athletes with disabilities to participate in sport and lead active, healthy lifestyles.

As part of last year’s Budget, the Government announced a Sporting Competition Access Fund to provide additional support for athletes with disabilities to compete in national and international level competitions and events.

Support packages of up to $3,000 will be made available to enable an athlete, coach, and or carer to attend the same event.

Tasmania has a strong history of representation at Paralympic events with the likes of Deon Kenzie, Melissa Carlton, Todd Hodgetts, Matthew Bugg and Jacob Templeton doing the State proud on the international stage.

For the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games, the Government will also provide $40,000 in support to the Australian Paralympic Team.

“I look forward to watching our para-athletes shine once national and international competitions can resume and I am proud of the substantial support our Government continues to provide to Tasmania’s sport and recreation sector.” said Jane Howlett, Minister for Sport and Recreation.
