A disability worker in Australia has faced court charges of sexually assaulting two women with disabilities in his care.

A forty-one-year-old man, Arjun Kandel, appeared in Elizabeth Magistrates Court charged of sexually assaulting two women with disabilities allegedly occurred in August.

Court documents allege he abused his authority position and knew the women were vulnerable due to their mental disabilities.

Labor MLC Kyam Maher questioned the South Australian Government over the matter in Parliament.

He asked for an assurance from the Government that public health workers would fully cooperate with the investigation and asked if the alleged offender was working autonomously at the time of the alleged incident.

Human Services Minister Michelle Lensink said the Department of Human Services (DHS) was fully collaborating.

Ms. Lensink said the allegations were severe.

“My understanding is the individual has been a DHS employee employed within a unit that has worked across a range of sites,” Ms. Lensink said.
“All of the residents of our services have been contacted … to ensure that everyone was aware of this situation.”

The matter will return to court in January.
