People with disabilities have received medical furniture at home in Colombia

Hospitalized patient lying in bed and wheelchair

Thanks to the joint work carried out by the local mayor of Usme and the South Subnet of the Ministry of Health, more than 200 people with disabilities have benefited from the delivery of wheelchairs, hospital beds, sanitary chairs, among other furniture that facilitate their autonomy.

According to Claudia Segura, coordinator of the project, $ 617 million pesos were allocated for the program and to date more than 210 people with disabilities have received aids.

These aids that do not have any cost for the user or affiliation restriction, improve the quality of life of the person and their caregiving family. We deliver wheelchairs, furniture such as hospital beds, anti-decubitus mattresses, sanitary chairs, pedagogical kits for children with cognitive, visual or hearing disabilities, and the latter are very important, especially at this time where children study from home, ” Segura said.

One of the beneficiaries of the program is Jorge Enrique Morales, who has boy paralysis, the result of a head trauma that he suffered when he slipped from some stairs. This 80-year-old man lives with his wife Rosalía and their daughter Yesairad Morales, who claim that their lives changed after the accident.

“Now we have to be aware of him all the time, bathe him, take him to appointments and feed him,” says his daughter, who deeply appreciated the visit of a professional team from the South Subnet at his home to give him a wheelchair , a sanitary chair and an anti-decubitus mattress.

“Thank you very much, because we do not have the means to acquire these things that are so necessary for my father and that will make it easier for us to bathe him and transport him to his medical appointments,” added Yesairad.
