The Zimbabwe Government has built ramps and accessible toilet facilities for students with disabilities at 17 primary schools in Rushinga District.
The Government of Zimbabwe adopted a policy framework to ensure that every building accommodates students with disabilities, the Herald reported.
“Funds were being sent to local authorities to upgrade all public buildings and make sure that they have ramps and accessible toilets.” said Mrs. Lorretah Jonas, Rushinga District Development Coordinator said
“We made it clear that the toilets for persons with disabilities are not separated from the others to avoid stigmatisation.”
“This is what we have done as Government to make it a policy so that no buildings are constructed without including disability issues.
She said DAPP had promoted unity as communities are no longer discriminating against each other on disability grounds when it comes to social and community participation.
